10. Fabián Ruiz (PSG & Spain)
Fabián Ruiz won the most important titles a football player can win in the same season, as he won the Champions League with PSG and the World Cup with Spain. He was a starter for Luis Enrique throughout the season and even though he didn’t start the games at the beginning of the World Cup, his performances were so impressive that Luis de la Fuente ended up picking him for his starting eleven from the quarterfinals onwards. He’s now won every possible title for Spain and has two Champions Leagues to his name.
9. Lionel Messi (Inter Miami & Argentina)
Lionel Messi once again proved why he’s one of the greatest, if not the greatest, players of all time. He scored eight goals and provided four assists at the World Cup, carrying Argentina to the final. At the age of 39, he won the Silver Ball of the tournament and was one step away from winning a second World Cup and probably a record-breaking third Golden Ball.
8. Erling Haaland (Manchester City & Norway)
Erling Haaland won his third Premier League Golden Boot, scoring 27 goals in 35 appearances, but missed out on his third Premier League title. Nevertheless, he won the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and he had an exceptional World Cup tournament, as he scored seven goals in five games to guide Norway to the quarterfinals. This has been Norway’s deepest ever run in a World Cup tournament and Haaland instantly became their top goalscorer ever with seven goals in his first appearance.
7. Michael Olise (FC Bayern & France)
Michael Olise broke Pelé’s assist record at a single World Cup, as the French winger recorded seven assists at his first World Cup. He might have also broken Lionel Messi’s record for most assists in a single season, as Olise assisted 33 times, but different sources state different assist tallies for Messi’s 2011/12 season, so the world is not entirely sure if he broke it. Michael Olise also won the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal with FC Bayern, as he was named MVP of the Bundesliga for the first time.
6. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG & Georgia)
The Georgian winger won his second consecutive Champions League with PSG and was named the best player of the tournament. He scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 16 Champions League games, as he scored in every knockout stage except for the final. He had an exceptional season and would probably be higher on this list if he had played in the World Cup.
