Harry Kane is the winner of the 2026 Home of The World’s Sports Player of the Year award. Today we’ll be looking back and analysing his 2025/26 season and what he did to win the award.
Harry Kane’s season kicked off in style, as he won the German Super Cup, in which he scored in his first game and proceeded to score or assist in all his next eleven games for FC Bayern. As for his performances with his national team, Harry Kane scored five goals in five games to help England qualify directly for the World Cup, avoiding the dangerous play-offs. In the first half of the season, Harry Kane had already scored 35 goals in 30 appearances. If anyone saw this goalscoring tally at the end of a season, they would think this player had an exceptional season. The thing is, this was only the first half of the season for Harry Kane. These stats put into perspective just how prolific his 2025/26 season was.
As January came around and the most important half of the season kicked off, Harry Kane upped his level even more, as he scored in every single knockout match in the Champions League, including two goals in the semifinals against PSG, and in the DFB Pokal. He finished his Champions League campaign with 14 goals in 13 games, just one goal behind the top scorer Kylian Mbappé, and ended his triumphant league campaign with 36 goals in 31 games. In the DFB Pokal Final, he scored a hat-trick to lead FC Bayern to victory, as they won 3-0 and lifted their third title of the season. Thanks to his 36 Bundesliga goals, Harry Kane won his second European Golden Shoe with a nine-goal advantage ahead of second place Erling Haaland.
Coming into the 2026 World Cup, England had high expectations for their captain, and it’s safe to say that he met them. He scored a brace against Croatia in his first group stage game and a goal against Panama in their third and last group stage match. In the Round of 32 while trailing 0-1 to DR Congo, Harry Kane scored a brace to complete the comeback and avoid elimination. During their next game in the Round of 16 against one of the host nations, Mexico, he scored a goal and provided an assist to send England to the quarterfinals. Although they fought until the end, England were knocked out in the semifinals against Argentina but ended up winning the bronze medal.
Harry Kane finished his best season ever with three trophies and third place at the World Cup. The English striker ended up with a career-high 72 goals scored across all competitions, making him the first player to achieve this feat since Lionel Messi in the 2011/12 season. Harry Kane’s season will be spoken about for years, and he is truly deserving of the 2026 Home of The World’s Sports Player of the Year award.
