Espanyol and FC Barcelona face off at the RCDE Stadium once again tonight at 21:00 CET. The last time they met, FC Barcelona were crowned LaLiga champions at their rival’s stadium with a great goal from Lamine Yamal. A lot of controversy followed, as the home fans felt provoked by the FC Barcelona players’ celebrations.
This time around, Espanyol are in significantly better form than last time, seeing as they’re currently fifth in the league, having won their last five matches in the competition. They’ll try to upset FC Barcelona for the first time since 2018, when they won 1-0 at home in the first leg of the Copa del Rey Quarterfinals. On the other hand, they haven’t beaten FC Barcelona in the league since 2009.
Having said this, even though it might be one of the fairer derby scenarios in recent history, regarding team form, FC Barcelona are still the clear favourites to take all three points tonight.
