Xherdan Shaqiri
After an outstanding first season at Basel, in which he won the domestic double, Xherdan Shaqiri has his eyes set on European glory. FC Basel is playing the Europa League for the first time since 2020 and were guided to victory by Shaqiri, who provided an assist to seal the win, on Matchday 2.
LOSC Lille
AS Roma hosted LOSC Lille, which was the most anticipated fixture of Matchday 2. The visitors managed to take home three massive points, as they defeated Roma 1-0. The match was highlighted by a penalty in the 79th minute, which had to be retaken twice, but was saved all three times by the goalkeeper Berke Ozer.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa took down Feyenoord, who are currently being managed by club legend Robin van Persie. Villa have won both of their Europa League games so far and haven’t conceded a single goal in the process. They’re definitely one of the favourites to win the title, especially after having reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League, in which they fell to eventual champions PSG, last year.
Viktoria Plzeň
Viktoria Plzeň beat Malmö FF in a comfortable 3-0 win last night. The Czech side are looking to improve on last year’s performance, in which they were knocked out of the competition in the round of sixteen.
Giovani Lo Celso
The Argentinian midfielder has been playing exceptionally well this season. Yesterday he scored a stunning goal and led Real Betis to a 2-0 victory over Bulgarian club Ludogorets. After reaching the Conference League final last season, Lo Celso will try to lead the team to another European final this season and will hope to be more of a protagonist this time around.
