Last night, Galatasaray produced the biggest upset of the Champions League so far this season, as they stunned Liverpool at home. Before the match, it looked like it would be a straightforward win for Liverpool, due to Galatasaray’s underwhelming 5-1 loss on Matchday 1. Galatasaray had other plans, as they won a penalty in the 14th minute after Dominik Szoboszlai took down Barış Yilmaz in the box. Victor Osimhen then sent Alisson the wrong way and slotted in the penalty down the middle to go up 1-0.

The Turkish fans erupted, and the stadium shook for a few minutes after the opening goal. Liverpool then tried to turn things around by bringing on more offensive firepower in Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah in the second half. They kept knocking on the door but were never able to create a clear chance to score, because of Galatasaray’s great defensive strategy.

The stadium then rumbled one last time at the final whistle and Liverpool stood there in disbelief. Galatasaray secured three extremely important three points, seeing as their goal is to reach the round of sixteen for the first time since 2014. As for Liverpool, they’ll try to get over this second defeat in a row as soon as possible, seeing as they must face Chelsea on Saturday.
