Last night, France Football awarded their prestigious prizes in the Théâtre du Châtelet and, as expected, there were some mixed opinions on the rankings. On the men’s side, Ousmane Dembélé won the Ballon d’Or for the first time in his career, after having had no prior nominations.

On the women’s side, Aitana Bonmatí received a record third straight Ballon d’Or, making her the sole female player with the most awards in history.

The ceremony was suspenseful right until the end, seeing as it was one of the first years that no one knew who was going to win the award. In the end, the rightful winners were revealed and fans in the theatre even sang chants for their fellow compatriot Ousmane Dembélé. Lamine Yamal finished second and will be looking to take his revenge this season.
