Athletic Club
Athletic Club and Real Madrid are the only teams to have won all their first three matches. What’s most impressive about this, is that all three of Athletic’s games were very tough and fought out until the final whistle. They’ve had to play three tricky opponents in Sevilla, Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis, but every time they’ve managed to come out with a narrow one-goal difference victory. They’ve now accumulated a three-match winning streak and all eyes will be on them after the international break, to see how long they can keep up this great form for.
Nicolas Pépé
After a complicated but promising first season at the club, Villareal decided to renew Nicolas Pépé’s contract until 2028. A decision which proved to be the right one, as he has hit the ground running, providing a goal contribution in all the first three games of the season. On Matchday 3 he gave Villareal the lead against Celta in Balaídos, but Borja Iglesias managed to score the equalizer in the 94th minute, ending Villareal’s perfect start to the new season.
Vini Jr.
Wherever Vini Jr. goes, a lot of noise follows him, yet he keeps silencing his haters, just as he did at the weekend, by scoring the winning goal with his weak foot against Mallorca. After winning his place back in the starting XI, Vini Jr. did not disappoint. The Brazilian has now scored in back-to-back games for the first time since January, helping Real Madrid to go top of the league table.
Valencia
After a shaky first two games, Valencia managed to turn things around with a convincing 3-0 victory over a struggling Getafe side. It’s clear that Valencia has a promising squad. The only thing that’s left for them to do, is to start performing like they did on this past matchday on a consistent basis.
Real Oviedo
Newly promoted Asturian club Real Oviedo achieved their first victory in the Spanish first division since 2001. Leander Dendoncker scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute, as Real Oviedo were able to hold on to the lead until the end of the match. A crucial win after having lost their first two games, seeing as their primary objective this season is to avoid relegation.
