The last Grand Slam of the season is starting on Sunday, and it looks like it’s going to be one for the history books. The question arises as to who will be crowned champion in New York, but there are two clear front-runners, and they’ll probably not give up their place as favourites for the next decade.

The “Big Two”
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have formed an inevitable new “Big Two”, as they’ve now established themselves as the clear best players in the world. They’ve dominated 2025, winning the three Grand Slams that have been played and three Masters 1000. In every tournament they’ve both played, one of them has come out victorious. It seems as if none of the other players are even close to their level, making a final between them, the most popular prediction right now. The only doubt is Sinner’s physical form right now, seeing as he was forced to retire in the final of Cincinnati due to illness. It looks like he is getting better though and will hopefully put on a show in Flushing Meadows.

The ”GOAT”
For as long as he still plays tennis, Novak Djokovic will always be a title contender. He’s reached the semifinals of every Grand Slam this year, retiring from Australia due to injury and losing to Sinner in the French Open and Wimbledon. As time passes by, his quest for a 25th Grand Slam becomes ever so unlikely, but he seems determined to prove everyone wrong. He hasn’t played any warmup tournaments to prepare for the US Open, but that might be an advantage for him, seeing as he will need to be as fresh as possible to go deep in the tournament.

The dark horses
Jack Draper and Ben Shelton are slowly but surely establishing themselves as Jannik Sinner’s and Carlos Alcaraz’s new rivals. The two lefties bring firepower to every game they play. Draper made the semifinals last year, in which he lost to Sinner, and is looking to take his revenge this year. Ben Shelton has fallen in all Grand Slams this year to either Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz. If they can manage to figure out how to beat the “Big Two”, New York is in for some serious fireworks.
