Last night, Cristiano Ronaldo became the joint-top goalscorer in the history of World Cup qualifying, joining Guatemalan striker Carlos Ruiz at the top.

Four days ago, Cristiano Ronaldo managed to get within one goal of the record, as he scored a brace in a comfortable 5-0 win against Armenia. All eyes were on the Portuguese captain yesterday, as he led his team to victory. His goal came in the 58th minute of the game, by winning a penalty and scoring it himself in convincing fashion.

He will have four more games to break the record, as Portugal still must face the Republic of Ireland twice and Armenia and Hungary once at home. Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to play a record sixth World Cup next year in the U.S.A., which would be his last chance to capture the elusive title.
